From the artist: “My piece was inspired by a black bodega cat I saw in Brooklyn, NY. I cut a small, rough, chunky linoleum block, while keeping the small rough woodcuts of early American printed chap-books in mind. I love the sequentiality of Eadweard Muybridge, Sol Lewitt, and Andy Warhol. Inspired by them, I felt that the nuances and variations of the printing process, when presented sequentially, provide expressive and meaningful, mysterious qualities to this image of a little bodega cat. Cats are magical and often have nine lives - sometimes I think they travel to other realms while they are sleeping!
